Birds of a Feather Challenge Journal

I just finished my challenge piece for The Three Muses Challenge. The theme is "Birds of a Feather". My last post showed you the covers before I collaged anything onto them.

Here's the finished product! I distressed the bird and egg with linen colored ink. Then I reconstructed the book using green colored raffia to bind it.

The inside front cover. I told you that the walnut ink rubbed onto the inside of the cover looks like leather! I added a distressed tag with some calligraphy for the recipient to write their name.

Here, the collage elements have been added, but I haven't distressed the bird and egg with linen colored ink yet. The colors in this photo are darker than the actual pieces. The photo of the finished journal (above) is closer to real life colors.

  3. Very pretty journal! Love the way the blue sets off the natural tones of the bird, feather, egg and skeleton leaves. Such a great way to re-bind the pages, too. Know you will have fun filling this with wonderful thoughts and drawings!

  4. So many people (including me) have problems linking within the blogs. I have given up trying to link. It is almost as easy just to click on the username to get to the required blog. Sorry to hear you had problems last week.
Your journal artwork is exquisite. How wonderful that you can combine your two main interests, art and nature, to create such lovely pieces. For some reason the title of an old foreign movie keeps coming into my head "The incredible lightness of being" because your picture is all about lightness and fragility. Wonderful work.
Cheers from Marie aka Ozstuff at the Muses.
