Tuesday Tea and Tomorrow's Adventure...

Drinking cold (no ice) decaf black tea tonight... I have this thirst I can't seem to shake today.  Anyway, I thought I had posted this pastel painting before, but couldn't find it in my archives... This is Audubon's Crested Cara Cara... a regal bird that lives in Florida's prairie habitat.

I've been planning a field trip for some Board members to drive through the Myakka River watershed.  The highlight of the trip will be the drive through the Myakka Prairie.  The Myakka River State Park is one of Florida's oldest and largest State Parks.  Combine that with adjacent District and County conservation lands and you have one big hunk of Florida.  The prairie is mesic, meaning it can be wet or dry depending on the time of year.  Tomorrow I'm doing my trip recon... I'm meeting a park biologist and we are going to drive the prairie and determine the best route to take my Board members.  Yay!!!  I LOVE this place!!! The wildflowers are incredible and hopefully there will be some blooming to photograph... Like these...

Helianthus angustifolia - Narrow Leaved Sunflowers - There's a green spider on one of these. Can you find it?

Helianthus radula - Rayless Sunflowers - They don't look like much here, but they are a beautiful deep violet red in color.  They are one of my favorites.

Either way... I'll be gone until Friday night (no the field trip won't be that long, but I have other business down south too)... and I'm planning (again) to do the wine fest Saturday, so hopefully I won't be too worn out (like last time when I had been traveling all week)!  So Happy Tea Tuesday and don't forget to visit Kimmie's side bar to find more Tuesday Tea!

  3. How fun to have a job where you get to be outside in a prairie. I work in a place that does not even have windows to the outside! Have a wonderful time. And best of luck on Sat. don't get to tired.

  6. Wow, what an interesting trip, I would love to tag along.Found the spider.....he looked "ghost-like", sort of transparent, and ethereal. The wine -fest sounds extra good, you will have to let me know if there are any Australian wines there, or is it promoting only Californian wine, what ever, have a great time.

  7. What a gorgeous bird! And I found the spider - he's huge! Not a big fan of spiders, but he is a pretty green color. Your trip sounds marvelous. Makes me want to visit the prairie myself. Maybe you can give us some travel pointers when you get back...

  8. Dianne, I realize I'm super late in wishing you a happy Tea Tuesday, since by my time (and yours) it is now Thursday! But you have truly saved my Friday challenge. I just picked some flowers that look very, very similar to the sunflowers in your photo. And by clicking your photo even before I read about the spider, I immediately saw it! My blooms are on a big bush, with many flowers and many stems radiating out of the central shaft. For some reason, I didn't realize sunflowers grew like that, and they don't look like that in your photo.

What a wonderful job you have that takes you to places as beautiful as this. Have a safe and enjoyable trip and hope you make your wine festival this weekend.

BTW, I am linking to this post when I do my challenge. If you have time, please stop by Friday's post to see if they are the same sunflowers. No hurry. It's more for my edification than anything! Again, happy belated Tea Tuesday, even though you are now in south FL.
